Qualifications: High school graduate. Previous training and experience in basic principles of mechanics, electricity, plumbing, hardware, and landscaping preferred. Must be mechanically inclined and have the ability to operate common machines, hand tools, and equipment. Minimum two years experience in an assisted living community or a similar position. Ability to read, write, and follow written directions. Experience in dealing with elderly and their needs and requests. Supervisory experience required. Ability to work well with others. Must be well organized with time, attention to detail, and effective communication skills. Must possess consistent initiative, good judgment, and leadership ability.

Job Purpose: To insure the overall care of the community maintenance, housekeeping, and laundry programs.

Essential Functions: Must support and be able to communicate to other organizations the MeadowView concept of care.

Assure the community and grounds are repaired and maintained in proper working order.

  • Inspect buildings and grounds regularly for compliance with local, state, and federal codes, ordinances, and safety regulations.
  • Maintain records of inspections, work performed, and costs.
  • Supervise housekeeping staff and contracted services.
  • Occasionally supports housekeeping by cleaning resident rooms, utility areas, offices, and all common areas, according to daily, weekly, and monthly schedules. This includes vacuuming, mopping, dusting, sweeping, waxing, scouring, polishing, etc.
  • Monitors and maintains inventory of supplies and equipment and communicates needs to Director.
  • Report all unsafe/hazardous conditions to Executive Director. Assist with special projects and events.
  • Remain on call for emergencies. Encourage residents to be as independent as possible. Develop positive relationships with residents and their families.
  • Maintain confidentiality of residents, staff, and visitors.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of safety management. Maintain MSDS manual for housekeeping, laundry, and maintenance chemicals.
  • Must be able to work well with others as a team, managing time effectively.
  • Assist in supervisory and administrative duties as assigned by Executive Director.
  • Pursue a program of continuing education in assisted living, and Alzheimer’s/dementia, in order to maintain, strengthen, and develop increased knowledge and skills as Director of Maintenance.
  • Other duties as assigned or requested.

Job Requirements
This position requires standing, walking, sitting, stooping, bending, moderate lifting and carrying, and activities throughout the day. Must have good vision, hearing, and verbal communication skills to communicate with residents, families, co-workers, and visitors. Must have good physical and mental health. Must be neat and clean in appearance.
